This Needs To Be In The Winter X-Games: Kid Rescued From Ski Lift By Dropping Into Blanket
In my family, it's not really the winter sports season until one of us has to be rescued from a ski lift with a tarp. But this was a first for 11-year-old Tristan Stead of Seattle, who was skiing in Whistler, British Columbia, with his aunt and uncle when things went oh so wrong.
Stead was about to board the lift when he dropped one of his poles, as he bent down to retrieve it, the chair "hit me in the butt", and his uncle grabbed him by the jacket, and "I just went up", according to KOMO News.
Before long Tristan was 20 feet off the ground, dangling by his jacket. That's when the operator stopped the lift before he got any higher. The boy remained dangling from the chair for six minutes before other skiers got into position beneath him, holding a large tarp. That's when this happened.
Christopher Sakai, who got the video, said that the rescue came just in time, as the boy was slipping out of his clothes.
But if the rescuers knew how non-terrified the youngster was they would have bounced him a few times when he landed. Tristan said that the whole thing "was fun", and couldn't wait to get on the lift again. Resort officials said that the tarp rescue would cost extra from now on.*
