VIDEO: Ndamukong Suh’s Foot Hits Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Head
The internet is very much under the impression that Ndamukong Suh, noted hater of quarterback's heads, purposely kicked Ryan Fitzpatrick in the head after chasing him out of bounds in the Jets vs. Dolphins game on Sunday. Others like Andy Isaac at Uproxx are skeptical that it was anything but an unfortunately familiar accident.
The incident that lead to Fitzpatrick's helmet flying off of his head went unnoticed by the refs, but not by NFL nation. Take a look for yourself:
Considering everything we know about Suh and his penchant for literally kicking people while they're down, he definitely doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt on this one. This is a guy who seems to consider it a personal failure if he doesn't get at least one good cheap shot in per game. And despite being huge and crazy, he is an extremely talented athlete that actually is totally capable of seeing that split-second opportunity to give Fitzpatrick a good crack on the noggin.
Football is all about split-second decisions and reaction time, and Suh may be a total dick but he still has a job in the NFL for a reason. Even at his most unnecessarily violent and lazy, he's a better athlete than a lot of other defensive tackles. Plus he lives for this shit, probably more than any other player I have ever seen. It's a game with the game for him.
Sometimes we chalk a little too much up to coincidence. Suh is a chronic kicker of heads and abuser of any other body part that may be prone while on the football field. He saw a chance as he was coming in for the tackle and he took it.
Going forward lets all agree that we don't have to debate this kind of thing. If a helmet comes off of a player's head while Ndomukong Suh is standing over them, we know what happened. Fair enough?
