ABC Tells Press It Must Cover Democratic Debate From An Ice-Cold Hockey Rink
There's no truth to the rumor that the DNC is trying to freeze out the press -- except for this. ABC, which is the broadcast sponsor of Saturday's Democratic Presidential debate, in Manchester, NH, has just issued this totally for real press advisory:
In order to accommodate everyone, the media filing center is on St. Anselm's hockey rink in the Sullivan Arena.
Please remember to dress warmly.
The building is home to the Saint Anselm's College hockey team. And, good news for reporters -- Sullivan arena has, according to the school's website "a grand organ donated by Saint Joseph's Junior High School in Manchester that rallies and entertains fans."
The latest ABC News polling has Hillary Clinton leading the Democratic field nationally with 59 percent, to 28 percent for Bernie Sanders and 5 percent for Martin O'Malley. Presidential polls in December are about as useful as St. Louis Rams playoff tickets, but it's pretty clear that the DNC figures that Hillary is their nominee, and doesn't want the pesky press blowing holes in their meal ticket.
The DNC would have no Presidential debates if it had its druthers, but the public expects these things, so setting the press adrift on an ice floe will have to do. The media filing center is where all the real reporting and writing is done, and one has to figure that the building is heated. But when you're right out on top of the ice, well, it's still cold.
In other words, MSNBC's Brian Williams will have a story of harrowing personal danger to tell that's actually true.
