Arthur The Dog Finds Extreme Racing Team In Middle Of Jungle, And Then New Home
It's the story you've heard a million times before: Extreme Racing team finds stray dog in middle of Amazon jungle, feeds dog, dog follows them on insane, grueling jungle trek, team adopts dog, takes it home to Sweden.
Sweden's Peak Performance Racing Team was competing in the 430-mile Adventure Racing World Championship earlier this month in the Ecuadorian portion of the Amazon rain forest when, just before the final stages, they found a starving stray dog. They gave him a meatball, and that's how our story begins.
From team captain Mikael Lindnord, on the Peak Performance site:
“It all started with me giving Arthur a meatball when we were eating right before the long trekking. When we set off we did it with some other teams, and I didn’t understand that Arthur was following us until we were alone and he was still there. At one stage we had to take a break and the dog was totally wrecked. We opened two cans of food and let him eat, because he could find no food at all in the jungle."
Eventually the group had to ford a river in kayaks, and were told that Arthur couldn't go because it would be too dangerous -- he might capsize a boat.
But when the group pushed out into the river, there was Arthur, swimming alongside.
"It was too heartbreaking and we felt we couldn’t leave him, so we picked him up. We could hear the people cheer on the shore as we set off."
Arthur completed the journey, and was adopted by three of the team members -- who flew him back to Sweden, to his Forever Home.
I'll bet that Arthur gives better interviews than Marshawn Lynch.
