Meanwhile, At Lake Tahoe: SUV Slides Off Road, Careens Down Ski Slope
This is not as hilarious as it could have been, because five people were injured (none seriously, however). But an SUV slid off of a road adjacent to Heavenly Ski Resort in South Lake Tahoe, CA, on Saturday, and ended up on a ski slope, where it proceeded to slide down the run.
Resort personnel immediately closed the ski lift in case it wanted to go again.
Five people were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital on Saturday after the vehicle they were riding in ended up careening down World Cup run at Heavenly Mountain Resort and then landing upside down in the parking lot at California Lodge.
The Toyota 4Runner lost control about 4:30pm Nov. 26 as it came down Keller Driver. There is about a 90-degree right turn. The driver was not able to handle the icy conditions.
Instead of staying on the pavement, the vehicle went onto the ski slope, picked up more speed and then went over a 12-foot retaining wall, landing on the roof of the SUV.
Fortunately the California side of Heavenly was closed (Nevada is on the opposite side of the mountain), so there were no snowboarders lodged in the truck's grill. But winters have been so dry in the Sierras the past few years that any activity in the ski slopes is met with great rejoicing among the locals, even if it is just a Toyota.
