That Time Jon Snow Got His Ass Kicked At A McDonald’s
It's safe to say that Kit Harington is one of the biggest reasons that Game of Thrones has become a phenomenon -- some are calling Sunday's Season 6 finale the best hour (and nine minutes) of television ever produced.
His character, Jon Snow, has been through so much in 60 episodes that he had to plead with a priestess not to bring him back to life he he were killed. That's this show's equivalent of retirement. It's a far cry from the young, snappy, fresh-faced actor who auditioned for the role in 2010. Harington said that he got the part, he thinks, because he had a rather prominent black eye. He got into a fight at a McDonald's the night before his audition.
He had been in a fight the night before, he explains — he entered a McDonald’s with a woman, sitting down with another couple. The man proceeded to hurl abuses at Harrington’s date, and Harrington leapt up to defend her, challenging the man to a fight.
"I said 'No, you can't say that to her,' " Harington said. "It was the first time I had dome anything like that. Of course, he’d been sat down the whole time. He got up — and he just kept going,” he added, lifting his head skyward to demonstrate the other man’s height.
“I got battered,” he confessed, adding that he credited the man with helping him get the job out of the hundreds of men auditioning for the role. Jon Snow might not be seen with any black eyes, but the character definitely requires a bit of grit.
Harington also admitted that he fell asleep during a scene.
“You know when you wake up and you don’t know quite where you are?," he said. "There’s nothing scarier than waking up in the middle of Game of Thrones world.”
The scene where he comes back from the dead felt like actual death.
"It took “thousands upon thousands of takes,” he said, to nail the scene where he finally sits upright with a gasp. “They wanted that over and over again,” he explained. “I had to kind of say, ‘I don’t know how else to do it.’”
