The Binghamton Mets Are Changing Their Team Name And It May Actually Become The Binghamton Stud Muffins
Whenever a team changes its name it's always tough finding a perfect match. You want it to be cool, but not too cool. You want it to make sense in today's lexicon, but it also needs to make sense for future generations. You want it to have some significance (if possible) to the city that the it represents. In general, it's not easy. The New Orleans Jazz made a ton of sense. The Utah Jazz do not. The Minneapolis Lakers has the obvious connotation. We are pretty confident there are no lakes in Los Angeles. The Vancouver Grizzlies was a natural fit. Come on has anybody ever seen a Grizzly Bear in Memphis, Tennessee? So thus, it's extremely important to get the name correct.
The Binghamton Mets are about to get their name incredibly wrong.
Wanting to try and be unique, the B-Mets are ready for a change. They want to be different than just "Mets", so they are ready to institute a new team name. They have narrowed down the choices to six and are letting their fans vote on the winner. Here are the six finalists.

That's right. We are about to have a 1 in 6 chance of the Binghamton Mets becoming the Binghamton Stud Muffins. We are THIS close to seeing the Binghamton Mets becoming the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Gosh, can you imagine if the Binghamton Mets become the Binghamton Rocking Horses?
If you think we aren't serious and this is photoshopped, here are the descriptions from the website.
From the descriptions, it sounds like the B-Mets really do want to invoke the rich history of their city. They want to include the carousels and the horses. But they had to lose a bet or something for these names right? And can this PLEASE be a precursor to changing the New York Metropolitans to something like Gobblers? No matter which name wins the vote, we the people, truly are the winners.
Yeah, if you think we voted for any other name besides Stud Muffins, you're out of your damn mind.
