I found out about some interesting things in world of professional sports this past weekend.
1) The Boston Celtics will have to figure out how to navigate the NBA Eastern Conference without star point guard Rajon Rondo as he tore his ACL and is now out for the season.
2) Running backs in the NFL have gotten shorter over time.
4) Pro Bowl special teams player Matthew Slater of the New England Patriots (son of NFL HOFer Jackie Slater) has one NFL career reception. Matthew also now has one career Pro Bowl reception as he caught one ball for 13-yards in yesterday’s game. Watching the special teamer along with Houston Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt repeatedly line up as wide receivers, combined with Packers center Jeff Saturday switching from the NFC to the AFC and then back again in the middle of the game proved just why the NFL Pro Bowl is a total farce.
5) The Boston Red Sox almost traded Manny Ramirez to the Mets in 2008. Manny as we know, ultimately ended up with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Check out this promo leak by the Mets PR Department in the top right, courtesy of @AdamRubinESPN. I’m curious to find out what the Mets offered… They obviously thought they had a good chance to land him if the PR Department was in the mix. In case you are wondering, Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports Manny Ramirez has received no offers from MLB clubs this offseason — not even on a minor league deal.
Now back to 24/7 week long coverage of useless Super Bowl information…
