Who knew John Rocker was that smart. It is all true. Every bit. Taking away a citizens right to fight against a tyrannical government is usually the first step.

I know for a fact that German Jews were, for the most part, armed. It really doesn’t matter how many guns you have when every single government agency is against you. Don’t believe me? Go ahead and take your gun and use it as a licence to do whatever you please. Get into and argument with a policeman or other government official and make sure he can see that your armed. Then come back and tell us how much difference your firearm made.

People like you were not intended to be covered by the second amendment that says ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE the you are allowed to be armed to fight your own government. That is not self protection, that is TERRORISM.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the average American gun owner. We do not want to overthrow the government, nor do we want to use our guns as a license to do “whatever we please.” That’s an offensive and ignorant view of millions of Americans.

And yes, the 2nd amendment actually was put into place so that the population could theoretically overthrow a government in the case of it becoming tyrannical. Read the federalist papers. However, just because people on the extreme fringe of the firearms community may be calling for this doesn’t in any way mean the rest of us agree, nor does Kenneth’s statement at all suggest he agrees.

And yes, Hitler did disarm the Jews before he started campaigns to round up Jews to the ghetto. Numerous history books, as well as family members of mine who lived in Germany prior to the war have verified this for me several times.

I don’t see anything in there that provides for your right to defend yourself from your own government.

I gotta say, adding extra facts that are not germane to the issue, such as the Federalist Papers, seems like a stupid way to argue. The Federalist Papers did, in fact, argue against the adoption of the Bill of Rights by Congress. I’m not a lawyer but I’m pretty sure your precious 2nd Amendment is in the Bill of Rights. Are you suggesting I read a collection of articles that make that argument that you should not have the rights you are purporting to defend? Strange.

I do not condone the use of firearms as self-defense. In my mind this just raises the stakes of petty crime and / or personal disputes. I do however understand that they are (mildly) useful as a deterrent to state violence.

It seems unlikely given that, even in a place such as the US where there is a right to bear arms, you wouldn’t find a population that is “for the most part” armed.
