Sports Anchor Loses Mind On Air, Channels Inner Teenage Girl (Video)
by Dan Fogarty | 1:51 pm, July 10th, 2010
What is an anchor to do when he’s faced with a slightly drab Mariners-Yankees highlight? Spice it up by channeling a Twitter-crazy female fan, of course!
When Ichiro accidentally knocks into a young lady spectator, Jay Onrait of Fox Sports TSN decides it’s time for a little bit o’ the improv. Dubbing over the girl’s ecstatic reaction to being touched by Ichiro, he unleashes his inner Mystery Science Theater 3000.
According to Reddit, this is not the first time Onrait has done something like this. He and his running buddy, Dan O’Toole, bring the funny on a fairly consistent basis. From Reddit user JonEQuest:
When those two are together, magic happens. Last week for no reason They showed a picture of Rick Ross Without a shirt on for no reason. Shit like that makes my day worth getting up for.
Shirtless Rick Ross on a sports highlight show? Congratulations Jay Onrait, you are my new favorite sportscaster.

Jay Onrait works for TSN in Canada, not Fox Sports Net.
.: Can’t say I agree that Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole bring the funny with every show they do, but they do bring the insult. Onrait talks down to his audience 100% of the time, as if each view has the mind of an 8-year old, and seemingly takes great pride in insulting the audience’s intelligence. Every time a Canadian baseball player is featured in an MLB highlight, he screams, “CANADIAN”, as if this matters on a daily basis. After making a point, he’ll smirk at the camera as if to say, “How stoopid must you be, viewer, if you didn’t get that?” Both Onrait and O’Toole seem to delight in laughing over top of each other during the broadcast as well, adding to their collective self-delusion that they are entertaining us rather than actually anchoring a sports broadcast. O’Toole’s trademark when describing a home run is to use “Mc”, as is, “Spanky McBallgone”, or he’ll tell us that the batter just bought a ticket to Jerk City, or a variation thereof. This is original and funny? Er, not.
An Onrait/O’Toole broadcast on Sportscentre is as unprofessional as it gets.
And the line in my comment should have read, “…as if each viewER has the mind of an 8-year old…”
