The definition of a dunk is powering the ball downwards through the hoop, not need to touch the hoop.

–I’m  6’2 175 pounds, 40 inch verticle, been dunking since high school: Anybody who believes that THROWING the ball into to the rim isn’t HARDER than a traditional dunk has clearly NEVER dunked a basketball themselves. If I could get so high that I could THROW the basketball into the rim, I’d never do a normal dunk again!!
