Will Danny Granger Come Back To Haunt The Pacers In The Playoffs?

Did you know: Danny Granger’s two nicknames are “Batman” and “The Gift” according to Basketball-Reference.com?

Now that we got that out of the way, to business: You may have heard that the Pacers traded Granger, their longest-tenured player, to the Sixers for Evan Turner. Granger has struggled to return to his All-Star form due to injuries, and Paul George had already usurped him as the team’s best small forward — and overall player. With $14 million due to him this year, it was probably time for Granger to go, and Turner could be a solid addition.

But did the Pacers expect Granger to get bought out and immediately sign with a contending team, one that the Pacers can and should expect to see in the playoffs? Because there’s a high possibility that happens:

Granger is reportedly “pissed” at the Pacers for moving him. Maybe he expected to be worked back into Indiana’s rotation, or at least be allowed to ride the bench on the way to possible glory before working things out in a new contract over the summer. How devastating would it be for the Pacers to meet the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, only to see Granger knocking down open jump shots on kick outs from LeBron? What if they make it past the Heat but encounter Granger in the Finals with the Thunder or Spurs?

The Pacers better hope Granger values money over winning, and stays put in Philadelphia so he can retain his Bird rights to snag a big contract. Otherwise, they might rue the day they shipped off their long-time former great for, you know, Evan Turner.
