Week 8 Add/Drop: Who To Pick Up Off The Waiver Wire

1.1. Add Brandon Stokley, WR, Broncos

Peyton Manning is playing close to his old levels statistically, and Stokley has past familiarity with him. Denver’s No. 3 WR has become a consistent scoring threat, and he faces the defenseless New Orleans Saints this week. Stokley is a great plug and play this week and also has some deeper roster appeal moving forward.

2.2. Add Ryan Broyles, WR, Lions

Nate Burleson has gone done for the year with a broken leg and Titus Young is next in line to step forward on the depth chart. But Young is a head case and has not made the most of opportunities to beat Burleson out the past two years. Broyles looks more polished and could outperform Young statistically.

3.3. Add Santana Moss, WR, Redskins

He is going to be more valuable than you might think going forward. More big statistical games are ahead. Robert Griffin III loves to look downfield and now Moss is his man, because we do not know when Pierre Garcon may return.

4.4. Do not cut Robert Turbin, RB, Seahawks

Maurice Jones Drew’s owners learned a hard lesson last week if they dropped Rashad Jennings recently. You can never drop a handcuff just because the No. 1 RB is healthy right now. You never know when your prime RB will get injured, so always keep the backup rostered. That also goes for you Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice owners who have cut Toby Gerhart and Bernard Pierce. Get ‘em back. Turbin is a top backup for an every-week starter, Marshawn Lynch.

5.5. Add Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Pittsburgh

He had the best game of his career in Week 7, but many Fantasy owners are believing his usefulness wll be short-lived. Both Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman could return in Week 8. Yet neither have been able to stay healthy, and we many have not seen the last of Dwyer as a quality Fantasy option.

6.6. Do not Cut William Powell, RB, Cardinals

Powell was benched this past week when he fumbled an early kickoff, and tiny scatback LaRod Stephens-Howling surprised with a 100-yard performance. Many owners are going to run out and grab Stephens-Howling with expectations this week, but LSR is just to small to handle a consistent workload on a regular basis. Powell is going to get more chances again soon and will at least share carries and could even re-emerge as a reliable flex option in the near future.

7.7. Add Vincent Brown, WR, Chargers

He is still available in many leagues, and he could return from a major ankle injury soon. The Chargers desperately need another receiving threat, as Robert Meachem has been a bust. Brown has experience working with Philip Rivers and could be a nice WR3 boost for you down the stretch and in the Fantasy playoffs.

8.8. Do not add Dustin Keller, TE, Jets

Keller had a pretty good game in Week 7 against the very weak patriots pass defense. Don’t expect him to build much on that performance. Keller has been historically mediocre for Fantasy purposes. Don’t be teased by one quality outing.

9.9. Drop Donnie Avery, WR, Colts

Avery looked like he was going to revive a sagging career early in the schedule, but recent returns have been mediocre. There are much better options out there, even for bye week purposes. Plus, younger pass-catchers should move past Avery in Andrew Luck’s pecking order soon.

10.10. Add Kyle Williams, WR, San Francisco

The Niners need a go-to guy when Vernon Davis is not getting open, like last week. Williams is starting to get more looks from Alex Smith and the 49ers are trying to find more ways to get the ball into his hands. Grab Williams now before there’s a rush for his Fantasy rights soon.

11.11. Drop LeGarrette Blount, RB, Tampa Bay

This goes for anyone who does not add Doug Martin. You do need to keep Blount as his handcuff. Many others added Blount, though, when he started flashing some unusual goal-line prowess recently. But the real Blount showed up in Week 7 and was repeatedly stoned at the goal line by an awful Saints defense. He reminded the Bucs why they drafted Doug Martin and Fantasy players remembered why he was a free agent to begin with.
