Omaha is a popular poker variant, and the game is available at sweepstakes casinos. If you are a newbie to poker or playing at sweepstakes casinos, I have compiled this guide on how to play Omaha poker at sweepstakes casinos.
In this guide, I share the fundamentals of Omaha poker, from the rules of the game to a walk through of a standard game. I also share details on how you can play for free and redeem cash prizes at two of my favorite sweepstakes casinos. So, join me as my Omaha Poker 101 class is in session.
Many associate poker with Texas Hold’em, but another popular variant is Omaha poker. The game follows the same principles as Texas Hold’em and is played between 2-10 players and with a standard 52-card deck of cards. The rules are very similar to Texas Hold’em, with the main difference being that you get four hole cards instead of two. Like American online roulette, you can play Omaha poker at most online casinos, including for free at sweepstakes casinos. Before I can get ahead of myself and share where you can play the game, below is a breakdown of Omaha poker rules.
As I shared, Omaha poker is similar to Texas Hold’em, with the main difference being that you get four hole cards, and you must use two hole cards and three community cards to form a hand. The hole cards are dealt to each player at the start of the game, while the community cards (flop, turn and river) are the standard cards used for Texas Hold’em. As you can tell, the gameplay is simple, and the golden rule is that you must make a five-card hand with two hole cards and three community cards. The player with the strongest five-card hand wins the game.
Since Omaha poker shares many similarities with Texas Hold’em, you should note that the card rankings are also the same. Below is a table of how the different Omaha poker hands are ranked:
| Omaha poker hand rankings | Card details |
| Royal Flush | Ten, Jack, Queen, King and Ace of the same suit |
| Straight Flush | Five consecutive cards of the same suit (eg. Nine ♥️, Ten ♥️, Jack ♥️, Queen ♥️, King ♥️) |
| Four of a kind | Four cards of the same rank |
| Full House | Three of a kind plus a pair (eg. Jack, Jack, Jack and Eight, Eight) |
| Flush | Five cards of the same suit (eg. Two ♠️, Five ♠️, Ten ♠️, Queen ♠️ and Ace ♠️) |
| Straight | Five consecutive cards of any suit (eg. Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight) |
| Three of a kind | Three cards of the same rank |
| Two Pair | Two different pairs |
| One Pair | Two cards of the same rank |
| High Card | When none of the above hands are formed, the highest card determines the ranking |
Next up, I am going to share a walk through of how a typical Omaha poker game works:
Before the dealer can start the round, the first two players to the dealer’s left must place a play amount on two options:
Each player on the table gets four face down hole cards. Next, a decision round occurs, and each player must either:
The dealer deals three face up community cards and a decision round occurs. If any player raises, the remaining players can call, re-raise or fold.
The remaining players enter the next round when the fourth face up community card is dealt – the Turn. Another round of decisions occurs.
The final card dealt is the River. After players see the River card, one final decision round occurs before you progress to the showdown.
The showdown means all players left in the game after the final decision round ( after the River) must show their hands (flip their hole cards). The player with the strongest five-card hand (2 hole cards and three community cards) wins.
As mentioned, you can play free Omaha poker at sweepstakes casinos. If you are familiar with sweepstakes casinos, you would know that all gameplay is with two virtual currencies: Gold Coins (GC) and Sweepstakes Coins (SC). You use Gold Coins when playing Omaha poker for fun, and you can get free GC with most bonuses and promotions. If you need additional GC, you can make optional GC purchases, and most bundles come with free SC.
When playing Omaha poker in sweepstakes mode, you use Sweepstakes Coins. SC winnings can be redeemed for cash prizes once the relevant requirements are met. You cannot make any SC purchases, but you can get free SC with most bonuses and promotions, such as the welcome bonus.
Two of my favorite sweepstakes casinos where I play Omaha poker are Stake.us and Clubs Poker. The good news is that similar to how there are no roulette downloads for roulette gameplay, players don’t need to download any Omaha poker software when playing at sweepstakes casinos. Below, I have shared the main features of Stake.us and Clubs Poker.
Stake.us is a popular name in the sweepstakes scene and is renowned for its massive welcome package. All new players can sign up using the promo code SPORTSGRID and receive 560,000 Gold Coins + 25 Stake Cash + 5% Rakeback. Below is a breakdown of how the welcome package works:
Stake.us has 1000+ social casino games and several Omaha poker variants for poker fans. You can play for fun using your Gold Coins and in sweepstakes mode with your Sweepstakes Coins. The latter winnings can be redeemed in exchange for real prizes, such as vouchers or gift cards.
Another top sweepstakes casino where you can enjoy Omaha poker games for free is Clubs Poker. You can sign up at the casino using the banners on this page, and all players will have access to diverse casino bonuses. Every day, when you log into your account, you will receive a free login bonus of 2,500 Gold Coins and 0.50 Sweepstakes Coins. You can play the different Omaha poker games with your Sweepstakes Coins, and SC winnings can be redeemed for cash prizes once you play through your SC at least once and have a minimum of 50 SC.
To be successful at Omaha poker you should implement an effective Omaha poker strategy. Below are some tips to follow when playing the game at sweepstakes casinos:
