2020 NFL MVP Futures Market Analysis
2020 NFL MVP Futures Market Analysis
The NFL season will be kicking off before we know it so what better time to dust off the crystal ball and take a glimpse into the future.
This tool of prophesy is displaying a hazy image of an older man who traded snow and cold for balmy winters in the sunshine state. Although this man from the north will not be cashing in his pension or trading cleats for bocce ball shoes just yet.
A wipe of the ball and the shadow of an incredibly young man in red appears. This man, just months ago, brought the elusive grail to his realm, a realm that has been searching for it for fifty years. He became king before his 25th year of birth.
The last figure fights for a faction with a dangerous predatory cat on their flag. From a land of vast tobacco fields clad in colors of black, blue, white and silver this warrior runs and receives to lead his stable across the battlefield. Aaaaand poof! Back to the present.
BEST BET AT SHORT ODDS – PATRICK MAHOMES +380
Spoiler alert! The young man in red is indeed Patrick Mahomes. He has already captured a Super Bowl and league MVP before the age of 25 and now can add a third first to his resume. If the half-billion-dollar man can cash in as the NFL MVP favorite, he will become the first 25-year-old to have two MVPs under his belt.
Believe it or not the video game character that is Mahomes is still developing. His growing experience, awareness and insight will only make him sharper this season. Adding versatile 1st round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire to the backfield only strengthens the Chiefs already lethal attack. The LSU product tallied 1,414 rushing yards and caught 55 passes for the Tigers last year.
Like most leagues the NFL seemingly likes to spread the MVP award around. The last back-to-back winner was Peyton Manning in 2008 and 2009. In my book, another factor giving Mahomes the edge over 2019 MVP Lamar Jackson (+700).
BEST BET AT MEDIUM ODDS – TOM BRADY +1800
Yes decoders, Brady is the Sunshine State man. The GOAT unceremoniously walked out of Gillette Stadium for likely the last time after his Patriots were bounced by the Titans in the 1st round last season. You can bet Brady has a chip on his shoulder and is ready to prove he can still do it and do it without Bill Belichick
Tom Terrific’s Tampa trip not only comes with a giant bag of cash but also with an upgrade your receivers coupon. Mike Evans is an absolute stud and at 6’5, 231 pounds Brady’s best prototypical wide out since Randy Moss. Chris Godwin is coming off his best season with over 1,300 yards in just 14 games for campaign number three. And oh ya! Almost forgot, that WWE wrestler named Gronk is trying his hand at football! Bucs Head coach Bruce Arians said he is seeing the Rob Gronkowski of old in training camp. If the O-line can hold up Brady should have a shot at putting in his prime Patriots type of numbers.
Tom Brady has been proving all of us wrong year after year for decades. If he can pull out one more big season that juicy +1800 will go down real smooth come January.
BEST BET AT LONG ODDS – CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY +5000
Final crystal ball translation: The ultra-talented running back is the predatory cat running through tobacco fields in Carolina.
So, we all know it is almost a guarantee a quarterback will walk away with MVP honors. Only four back have taken home the hardware in the past 20 years. Adrian Peterson LaDainian Tomlinson, Shaun Alexander and Marshall Faulk make four horsemen that would have Ric Flair himself Woooooo! in his tights. If there is a back out there with the skill set to join that exclusive club, it very well could be McCaffrey.
Run CMC will Rock the House as the undisputed focal point of Carolina’s offence Nothing is stopping him from running it back and repeating his 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yard season from a year ago. McCaffrey became the 3rd RB to ever achieve the feat joining Roger Craig and aforementioned horseman and Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk. The former Stanford standout’s 2019 campaign also featured an NFL record 116 receptions, the most ever by a running back. He is also the only RB with two seasons of 100 or more receptions
Without a ton of weapons in Carolina, number 22 could become even more involved in the offense, if that is possible. At +5000 he is definitely worth a look for a potential big payout.
