VIRGINIA SPORTS BETTING: BEST SPORTSBOOKS AND PROMO OFFERS

Sportsgrid-Staff
Virginia online sports betting came into the fold in March 2020. The Virginia General Assembly and Senate passed two bills that brought it to the state, and it was ultimately signed into law by Governor Ralph Northam following some revisions.
While it was signed into law in March 2020, it wouldn’t be until January 2021 when we saw the first sportsbooks go live.
Virginia sports betting has been live for a while now, but with each new sports season comes new bettors and overhauls to the sports betting sites.
Below, I’ll examine the top sites in the state, discuss banking methods and betting markets, examine the VA sports betting apps, and more.
Let’s see what Virginia has to offer.
List of Online Sports Betting Sites in VA
I’ll touch on the top Virginia betting sites, but before that, check out our rankings of these sites below. You’ll be able to see which we deem the best and access our exclusive bonus offers.
Top-Rated Virginia Sportsbook Sites
There are about a dozen VA sports betting sites, but below, I’ll narrow them down to six that I think are the best to focus on.
You can see our rankings above, but here, I’ll examine these sportsbooks in more detail, including features, promotions, the mobile app, and more.
Note: Online sportsbooks in Virginia don’t require a land-based casino partnership to operate.
FanDuel Sportsbook VA
New players at FanDuel Sportsbook will receive bonus bets upon wagering a qualifying bet. Further, there are numerous promotions you can expect to see often, including odds boosts, parlay insurance, profit boosts, and the refer-a-friend offer.
The three standout features at FanDuel Sportsbook VA are the Betting 101 guide, Parlay Hub, and daily fantasy sports.
The Betting 101 guide is a fantastic resource for new players, so I suggest new VA sports bettors try out FanDuel. This guide provides general sports betting information and content dedicated to specific sports. It includes text and videos.
Parlay HUB is a great resource for building the ideal parlay. Here, you can sort by bet type, sport, and odds to find the betting markets that fit your parameters.
As you’re likely aware, FanDuel offers daily fantasy sports, which propelled it into a popular gaming brand in the early 2010s.
The mobile app is fantastic. It’s exceedingly easy to get around and I didn’t experience any buffering or lag while perusing the site. The menu along the bottom is fantastic as it allowed me to get back to the homepage and view my account details quickly.
BetMGM Sportsbook VA
You can find a number of promotions at BetMGM. My favorite is the free-to-play game Swing For The Fences, which can unlock bonus bets.
BetMGM is the site I always recommend to players who enjoy parlay bets. There are pre-built Same Game Parlay wagers available for every game. You never need to bet on these, but these can give some ideas for wagers to add to SGPs. Additionally, the Easy Parlay page isn’t overly complicated—you can sort the page by sport and betting market to seamlessly find things to wager on and create a parlay with.
I enjoy the mobile app here. The search bar at the top is easy to see and makes finding betting markets a breeze. The promotions tab at the bottom makes it quick to see what’s available and what I could potentially leverage to add more funds to my wallet.
bet365 Sportsbook is my favorite Virginia sports betting site for promotions and bonuses. This site does something I haven’t seen offered often, and that’s the choice between two welcome bonuses. These aren’t even my favorite offers, though—they’re the early cashout promotions, which are available for numerous sports. The concept with these offers is that once the team you bet on gets up by a certain amount, your bet will immediately cash out. The sports associated with these offers are baseball, hockey, football, basketball, and more. bet365 also dabbles a bit with daily fantasy sports with Daily Lineups. This is available in Virginia, which is a plus, considering this isn’t available in every state where bet365 operates. I’ll point out that the user interface design may not be aesthetically pleasing to everyone, but I prefer functionality over flair, and bet365’s mobile app delivers that and looks fantastic on the mobile app. Live betting has become a popular online sports betting market, and Caesars has features that make it an incredible experience. These include a partnership with Genius Sports to live stream select NFL games and Fire Bets, a platform dedicated to micro-betting so you can wager on the most immediate bit of action. For example, you can bet on the result of the next play performed by the Washington Commanders, whether it’ll be a touchdown, rush, pass, or more. Caesars is also the place to go if you enjoy browsing boosted odds wagers. There are more than 40, but these are updated daily, and I’ve seen as many as 60 personally. You’ll find Quick Pick bets on the mobile app, which are suggested Same Game Parlays. These show you how much you’ll win with a $10 or $20 wager and show the odds up front. Of all the Virginia sports betting sites listed, I often find myself coming back to DraftKings the most. The collection of promotions, player props, and unique features makes it one of the most enjoyable experiences. First, new players will receive $200 in bonus bets after betting just $5. Other offers are constantly available, like no-sweat bets, parlay boosts, parlay insurance, profit boosts, and odds boosts. The number of features is staggering. There’s DK Social, which allows you to form groups with your friends to see what everyone is wagering on or join other groups to see what everyone is interested in. There are also free-to-enter or paid betting pools. There’s a betting guide, too. As far as betting markets go, the player props are my favorite. There are so many player prop markets, but beyond that, the number of players to choose from is beyond other platforms. Finally, like FanDuel, DraftKings offers daily fantasy sports. In the early 2010s, those two platforms ran that market. If the name “Fanatics” sounds familiar, you’ve likely heard of or even purchased something from the Fanatics online retailer. This is their online sportsbook. This sportsbook is still developing a bit more regarding unique features, but there’s a stellar welcome bonus and an unmatched rewards program. The rewards program, FanCash, enables you to get a specific percentage of your wager back, up to 10%, which can then be used for bonus bets on the sportsbook or site credit to purchase merchandise from Fanatics. The mobile app is easy to use. A search bar is prominently displayed at the top and a feature parlays section that’s similar to the Quick Picks at Caesars. You can also see a wagers section allowing for 10% back in FanCash. Sports betting is legal in Virginia. The Virginia General Assembly and Senate passed HB 896 and SB 384. These bills made their way to Governor Northam, and they were signed into law after some revisions. At the time, there were no retail sportsbooks. Thus, no land-based partnership was required for any prospective betting app. The first online betting sites launched in January 2021, and the first retail sportsbooks didn’t open until mid-2022. There are about a dozen Virginia legal online sports betting sites. See the list below in addition to where you can find the mobile app when it was licensed, the provider, and more. As you start to wager more, you’ll find yourself returning to the mobile app more often than not. I want you to be able to wager on these platforms with confidence, so I’ll go over how to get started step-by-step. After confirming your location, you can start adding bets to your betslip. All you need to do is add an option to it, input the amount you want to wager, and wait for the results. If you’re ready to start betting in Virginia, you’ll be happy to know that there are numerous sports to wager on. That said, each sportsbook has its own markets, so the list you’ll see below is the markets I most often encounter, but some may offer more or less than this. As for ways to bet, this will include markets like moneyline, props, parlays, Same Game Parlays, point spread, totals, and many more. The one notable prohibited market is college teams based in Virginia. There have been efforts to change this, but it has yet to be successful. You can wager on all other college sports teams. Virginia isn’t personally home to any professional sports teams, but there are many nearby. Banking methods are important at online sports betting sites in Virginia because, well, if they don’t have methods available for you to add funds or retrieve winnings, there’s no sense in trying to play there. For reference and like the betting markets above, I’ll list the methods I most commonly see. Again, the site you choose to play at may have more or less than these. Each Virginia sports betting site has a different threshold for minimum deposits and withdrawals and may require more proof of identity before withdrawing. I find this is most common if you’ve recently moved. If this happens, you’ll need to provide a copy of your government-issued ID. With little to no retail betting in the state, mobile sports betting is the primary way to bet on sports in Virginia. With so many options to choose from, you can create accounts at as many of them as you’d like to utilize their offers. If you want an idea of determining a good mobile app, consider this when you open the app: How fast can you find customer support, where to login, where to deposit/withdraw, promotions, and the betting markets? If the answer is fast, you have a good mobile app on your hands as I deem these as the most critical aspects of a sports betting site. These are the states where sports betting is legal in the U.S.: SportsGrid does its best to help you find the best odds and provide analysis-driven picks when betting.
