The NHL Edge: Edmonton Oilers vs. Ottawa Senators
The Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators will meet for the second consecutive night in Canada’s capital city after Edmonton doubled up the Sens 4-2 last night. Connor McDavid had another MVP-type performance in last night’s game, scoring a goal and adding three assists in the Edmonton win. He’s not the only Oiler putting up big numbers this year, as Leon Draisaitl is having another fantastic year. The 2020 Hart Trophy winner had a hat-trick on Wednesday and has eight points in his past five games. Both McDavid and Draisaitl will cost you at FanDuel but could have big nights for your DFS squad against Ottawa. Mikko Koskinen started last night’s game, so Mike Smith will be between the pipes for the Oilers tonight. Marcus Hogberg was in the crease against Edmonton last night, so Anton Forsberg will likely get the call, but Matt Murray could play for the first time in a month.
The odds continue to fall with the Oilers’ continued dominance over the Senator this year. Edmonton has a chance to complete the season sweep and go to 9-0 against Ottawa this year. In six of Edmonton’s eight victories over the Sens this year, they have won by multiple goals, so the puck line at FanDuel’s Sportsbook may look appetizing. Mike Smith between the pipes gives further confidence in the Oilers, considering the numbers he’s put up this year. You rarely see odds this small on the puck line, but Edmonton’s dominance is the reason the Oilers are just +128 to cover -1.5 goals. Edmonton on the puck like is the place to lean as long as it doesn’t eclipse +110. The moneyline carries no value at -188.
These two teams have hit the over in three of their eight matchups this season, and the value on the total is to go high again in this series. That being said, you shouldn’t shy away from the under here currently sitting at -115, although it’s rising quickly toward the don’t touch range of -125. Edmonton has had their way scoring on Ottawa, but the Sens struggle offensively, and Smith will make it harder for them to get on the board. With both teams coming into this game on the second of a back-to-back, the under looks like the strong play tonight.
