The NHL Edge: Washington Capitals vs. New York Islanders Betting Preview
The Washington Capitals and New York Islanders are neck and neck for first place in that East division, with the Isle just two points back of the Caps for first place but with a game in hand. Both of these teams have relatively strong offenses, with the Capital sitting third in the league while the Islanders are a little bit further back ranked 15th in goals per game.
These two teams have met only three times on the season, with Washington taking all three games against the Islanders. In the middle of March, their last meeting was a 3-1 Washington win where Alex Ovechkin scored the eventual game-winning goal.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to consider looking at the underdog side of the board tonight. Two of the Caps’ three victories over the Islanders have come by multiple goals, and there’s really a solid case to be made to take Washington tonight, despite the Isle being the -1.5 puck line favorite at +205. Washington has been a great road team so far this season as they sit 10-4-2 away from home and look very appetizing at +108 on the FanDuel Sportsbook moneyline.
We already established both of these teams aren’t shy in the goal-scoring department, but with that being said, only one of the three games has eclipsed six goals on the total. There’s been some really good goaltending and defenses between these rivals this year, but it looks about time for their offenses to take charge. The over of 5.5 looks juicy at plus money sitting at +100, and as we said, these teams can score, something they should do on Thursday night.
