Week 4 College Football Best Bets
With the SEC returning the gridiron this week, it would be fair to say college football is officially back in 2020. Let’s look at some of the best bets for Week 4 in college football with all the odds being brought to you by our friends at FanDuel.
#23 Kentucky Wildcats at #8 Auburn Tigers
Odds: Tigers -7.5, Over/Under 49.5
In the first of many SEC matchups between two ranked teams, the Kentucky Wildcats travel to Auburn to take on the Tigers, where the two teams will meet for the first time since 2015. This matchup features two of the country’s best teams against the spread in 2019 with UK, who was 10-3 ATS, and Auburn, who was 9-4.
There are rumblings around Lexington that this might be one of the most talented Kentucky football teams in a long time. The Wildcats have a chance for their fifth consecutive winning season, something they haven’t achieved since Bear Bryant was head coach in the 1950s.
Kentucky returns nine offensive starters, including four on the offensive line. Having that experienced protection on the line will be crucial as quarterback Terry Wilson returns from injury. Facing the Auburn defense is no easy task, but Wilson and Kentucky get the luxury of playing the Tigers in their first game as they try to find replacements for four players they lost to the NFL draft last year. If Wilson doesn’t come out too rusty, Kentucky not only covers, but wins the game.
The Pick: Wildcats moneyline +245
#22 Army Black Knights at #14 Cincinnati Bearcats
Odds: Bearcats -13.5, Over/Under 44.5
Army has been one of the more impressive teams to kick off 2020, winning both their games by an average margin of 36 points while covering the points both times. For the first time since 1996, they will face off against another ranked opponent as they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats.
Army averaged 388 yards a game on the ground in the first two weeks vs. Middle Tennessee State and Louisiana Monroe, teams who don’t see the wishbone offensive set very often. Unfortunately for the Black Knights, Cincinnati plays in the same conference as Navy and is accustomed to seeing an offense of that nature.
The Bearcats also return nearly everybody on a defense that ranked 33rd in the country in stopping the run. Cincy also likes to run the ball, and Army ranked 82nd last season in stopping the run. It’s like the old adage in college basketball, teams that press don’t like to be pressed. Well, in this case, teams that run the ball don’t like to be run against.
Expect the Bearcats to run the football and play exceptional defense while winning big this Saturday at Nippert.
The Pick: Bearcats -13.5
#8 Texas Longhorns at Texas Tech Red Raiders
Odds: Longhorns -18, Over/Under 70.5
Last time out in Lubbock, the Red Raiders defense allowed 572 yards passing to Houston Baptist. You can bet Texas senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger was salivating this week after watching the tape of the Red Raider game.
Last year when these two teams met, the two teams combined for 73 points, with Texas winning 49-24 with Sam Ehlinger throwing for 348 yards and a couple of touchdown passes. This Saturday will feature a similar outcome, and both teams will put up a lot of points and cover the gigantic 70.5-point over/under.
The Pick: Over 70.5
