Top 10 Soccer Players in the World Right Now

David Connelly - SportsGrid

In a constantly evolving soccer landscape, the contention for the title of the world’s best player never ceases.
Here’s a list of the top ten players who have showcased unmatched skill, dedication, and brilliance on the field in recent years.
1. Erling Haaland
It’s hard to say Haaland hasn’t been the best player in the world since joining Manchester City last summer. Every time he steps on the pitch, it seems he finds the back of the net, and he’s doing so in the best league in the world. After thrashing the EPL’s all-time goal-scoring record in a season, he’s shown no signs of stopping and is still just 23 years old.
2. Kylian Mbappe
Before Haaland’s breakout with City, Mbappe had little competition as the world’s top player, but he is still in the conversation. After nearly willing France to dramatic triumph at the World Cup Final, it put little debate that he is among the top three best players in the sport.
3. Lionel Messi
We could see a case made for these top three to be in any order. Messi‘s domination of the MLS is unlike anything we have ever seen before, and it’s just another act in the saga that is his career. He’s as close to the sport’s GOAT as we’ve ever seen, and he’s showing very few signs of stopping any time soon at 36 years old.
4. Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne has been at the center of one of the most dominant dynasties in English soccer’s history. His elite passing, knack for scoring, and overall comfortability anywhere on the pitch make him arguably the best midfielder of his generation and one of the best ever.
5. Mohamed Salah
Salah had a down year in 2022-23, but his quality remains when you watch him on the pitch. His grace with the ball, blazing speed, and underrated playmaking ability have helped him become a Liverpool legend, and we expect a serious bounceback from the Egyptian in the coming season.
6. Vinicius Jr.
Vini‘s flair, excitement, and goal-scoring make him and Real Madrid a match made in heaven. At just 23 years old, he has already taken home a pair of La Liga titles and a Champions League, with plenty to come. He’s improved every season, and it may not be long until he’s even further up this list.
7. Harry Kane
The shakeup Harry Kane‘s transfer caused throughout the Premier League, and Bundesliga summed up how incredible he is. The Premier League’s most prominent challenger to Erling Haaland for the Golden Boot exited stage left while Bayern Munich seriously bolstered its attack for the season ahead. With the team surrounding him, it wouldn’t be surprising to see 30 goals from the Englishman across all competitions in 2023-24.
8. Neymar Jr.
Neymar has slipped down this list recently but remains one of the ten best in world soccer. Few have rivaled his dribbling, skill, and goal-scoring since his early days at Barcelona. A move away from Paris Saint-Germain for a more significant challenge may suit the next phase of his career.
9. Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo‘s move to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr inevitably took him out of the European spotlight, but he remains a powerhouse goal scorer up top. He’s among the best ever to play and, at 38 years old, consistently finds the back of the net.
10. Robert Lewandowski
Lewandowski‘s days of 30 goals per season seem to be over, but he’s still one of the world’s top strikers. The respect he commands in front of the net and his lethal finishing with both feet and his head make him a nightmare for opposing defenders and goalkeepers.
