Week 5 College Football Best Bets
Week 4 featured a couple of top 10 teams lose, and this week features the first top 10 matchup of the year. Let’s look at some of the best bets for week 5 in college football with all the odds being brought to you by our friends at FanDuel.
#7 Auburn Tigers at #4 Georgia Bulldogs
Odds: Bulldogs -6.5, Over/Under 44.5
Both these long time SEC foes are coming off wins in which Auburn beat Kentucky and Georgia went down to Arkansas and beat the Razorbacks. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start as they were trailing 7-5 at halftime, but as the game wore on, they started to shake off the first game rust and clicking on offense, putting up 37 points. Coming into this game featuring the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, Auburn has not had much luck as they are 0-6 ATS in their last six meetings in Athens. On top of that, the favorite in this game is 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings. Expect a close game with Georgia sneaking it out, winning by a touchdown and covering.
Best Bet: Georgia -6.5
Virginia Cavaliers at #1 Clemson Tigers
Odds: Tigers -27.5, Over/Under 54.5
In the past five years, the Clemson Tigers have been one of the best teams in college football in covering the spread, but to kick off the 2020 season, they haven’t covered in each of their first two games. With the Virginia Cavaliers coming in town, the Tigers will look to change that trend. The last two times these teams have met, including last year’s ACC Championship game, Clemson has outscored Virginia 121-27.
In last year’s conference championship game, Trevor Lawrence and the Clemson offense produced over 600 yards of offense en route to the 62-17 victory. In that game, Lawrence posted a QBR of 97.3 and is coming off a game against the Citadel in which he had a QBR of 98.7. The hopeful Heisman candidate is poised to have another big game come Saturday night. While Virginia had success against Clemson transfer Chase Brice last week, the same won’t happen here as Clemson rolls and covers.
Best Bet: Clemson -27.5
#18 Oklahoma Sooners at Iowa State Cyclones
Odds: Sooners -7.5, Over/Under 63.5
The Oklahoma Sooners lost last week after they led 35-14 deep into the third quarter at home against a team they were favored to beat by 27.5 points. With that loss, the Sooners are now 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Big XII conference games. On top of that, Oklahoma is 0-4 ATS their last four meetings with Iowa State.
Sooner Freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler has superstar written all over him, but this is his first start away from Norman, and Ames is no easy place to play. All signs point to this game being a close one and Iowa State covering. As far as the over is concerned, the over is 12-2 in Oklahoma’s last 14 games when following a loss. On top of that, the over is 7-1 in the last eight meetings between the Sooners and Cyclones. You can expect a lot of points put up as the over trend continues this Saturday.
Best Bets: Cyclones +7.5, Over 63.5
