3 Things We Learned from Liverpool in Matchweek 8

After a flying start of 16 points in their first six matches, things have come to a bit of a screeching halt for Liverpool over the past two matchweeks. A controversial defeat to Tottenham followed by a draw with Brighton has them now sitting in fourth, three points off Tottenham and Arsenal atop the Premier League table.

While plenty of games are left to play this season, we discuss a few takeaways from the action for the Reds.

Klopp Has a Resilient Bunch

Between their inspiring effort against Tottenham down two men in Matchweek 7 and their fight from 1-0 down against Brighton last weekend, there’s no denying that Liverpool have an incredibly resilient squad yet again this season. They may make mistakes early on or struggle to create chances throughout parts of games, but that won’t come due to a lack of effort. Manager Jurgen Klopp has always done well to get the passion out of his players, and the new players in this side seem to be following suit.

They Continue to Concede the First Goal

While their resilience is inspiring, the Reds must get off to better starts. They have conceded first in seven of their 11 matches across all competitions this season, putting themselves in an impossible early hole in almost every fixture. While they have managed to storm back in nearly every fixture, this won’t be something they can continue to do against the bigger clubs as they push for a hopeful Premier League title run.

Mohamed Salah Can Still Lead this Side

While many have questioned whether Mohamed Salah would depart for Saudi Arabia or if he can still be “the guy” for this Liverpool side, he has continued to put that talk to rest to start the 2023-24 campaign. He has bagged five goals and dished out four assists in the Premier League for the Reds this season and has remained the focal point in the attack for the club. He may not have many seasons left as their main man, but he knows that 20 goals will be necessary if he wants to guide Liverpool to its second Premier League title in five years.
