Floyd Mayweather Claims $500 Million Was Stolen From Him

Floyd Mayweather Alleges $500 Million Was Stolen From Him

Floyd Mayweather may be one of boxing’s greatest financial success stories, as well as one of the sport’s best defensive fighters. His ability to avoid punches and strike only when necessary can make his fights seem boring to people unfamiliar with the sport.

His latest story, however, focuses not on how much money he made, but on how much he claims was stolen from him. During an interview on the PBD podcast, Mayweather alleged that $500 million was taken from him.

Mayweather followed a path similar to Oscar de La Hoya by buying himself out of a promotional contract and becoming his own promoter. That allowed him to arrange major fights and retain most of the revenue. He also worked with a partner named Al Hayman.

Mayweather is not alleging that Al Hayman directly took money from his bank account. Instead, he claims that checks from networks, including Showtime, were paid to Al Hayman rather than to Mayweather. According to Mayweather, he discovered this later.

The $500 million figure may be an exaggeration, but claims that Mayweather is broke also overlook the houses and cars he could sell. He is also expected to earn between $10 million and $20 million from an exhibition with Mike Tyson. For a potential fight with Manny Pacquiao next year, he is asking for a minimum of $110 million.

Mayweather appears to be pursuing another major payday, and few people are likely to feel sorry for him.
