UNLV Launches Oral History Project on Vegas Bookmakers

UNLV Launches Oral History Project on Vegas Bookmakers

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Pushing The Odds with Matt Perrault

UNLV's Oral History Project Celebrates Nevada's Legendary Bookmakers

UNLV has launched an exciting oral history project aimed at preserving the legacies of Nevada's most influential sports book directors. The project, not initially featured on Bet Batch, seeks to explore the careers of ten of Las Vegas's most significant bookmakers. Richard Schutz, CEO of America's Better Voice, and David G. Schwartz, a gaming historian, author, and ombudsman at UNLV, are involved in identifying these historic figures. An advisory committee will be formed to select participants for interviews, which will be archived at the Oral History Research Center in the UNLV library.

The oral histories will be accessible to historians, researchers, and the general public. Matt Perrault expressed particular enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the inclusion of notable figures like Roxy Roxborough and alluding to others associated with famous venues like Stardust and Circa. The project was announced at Betbash, and Perrault is eagerly anticipating the release of these histories, which promise to offer an in-depth look at the evolution of bookmaking in Las Vegas.
