Akshay Bhatia Makes Stunning Comeback to Clinch PGA Win

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From The Smylie Kaufman Show

Aksha Batiaz's Remarkable Comeback and Exceptional Short Game at the Tournament

Aksha Batiaz showcased a striking comeback during today's tournament by starting five shots back at the turn and then making four consecutive birdies. After receiving a 6-iron from his caddie Joe Griner, Batiaz was asked to hit the best 6-iron of his life, a challenge he met brilliantly by nearly making an albatross. He concluded the feat by sinking an eagle putt.

In a post-victory conversation on the green, Batiaz revealed to Kara Banks that Joe Griner had urged him to deliver the best 6-iron shot of his career. Overall, Batiaz made an impressive 144 feet and 7 inches of putts on Sunday. The standout statistic of the event was his gain of 16.3 strokes in the short game (around the green and putting) for the week, which is the highest in the PGA Tour's shot link era, surpassing Patrick Reed's previous record.

Batiaz's short game significantly contributed to his success, especially considering the challenging greens that frustrated many players. Despite a weak performance off the tee initially, where he hit only nine of his first 28 fairway attempts and struggled more with misses to the right, his prowess in putting and around the greens was paramount.

Remarkably, at the start of the event when conditions were tough with firmer fairways and stronger winds, Batiaz was able to adapt and improve over the weekend. He hit nine fairways in each of the final rounds, showing substantial improvement in his driving. This performance underlines the possibility that different types of players can succeed at this venue, from power hitters to those excellent around the greens, like Batiaz who managed to secure the win through his incredible short game and significant putts.

This tournament victory was not just a display of skill but also a testament to Batiaz's mental toughness and ability to capitalize on crucial moments, propelling him past challenges to emerge triumphant.
