2024 MLB London Series
The third installment of the 2024 MLB World Tour is quickly approaching: the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets will face off in the London Series this weekend.
The Phillies are flying high, heading to London with a solid lead over the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. They've excelled on both offense and defense this season. London fans can anticipate thrilling performances from stars like Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Ranger Suárez.
In contrast, the Mets are enduring a prolonged slump, losing 13 of their last 20 and 20 of their last 30 games, dropping nine games below .500 and struggling in the crowded NL Wild Card race.
A trip to another continent might be just what the Mets need to reset and find their form. Despite their struggles, a team with stars like Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Brandon Nimmo shouldn't be playing like one of the league's worst teams.

London Baseball History
The first London Series, and the first MLB series ever played in Europe, occurred in June 2019, when the New York Yankees swept the Boston Red Sox in a two-game set. With nearly 60,000 spectators in attendance, the Yankees won the first game 17-13 and the second 12-8.
The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals were originally scheduled to play in London the following season, but the COVID-19 pandemic postponed their matchup for three years.
Finally, in June 2023, MLB returned to London Stadium, with the Cubs and Cardinals splitting a two-game series. Chicago dominated the first game, winning 9-1, while St. Louis bounced back to claim the second game 7-5.
Who Is Playing in the 2024 London Series?
Another pair of long-time rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets, will clash in London this weekend.
Unlike the previous two London Series, there will be no single designated “home team” this time. Instead, the Mets will be the “home team” for game one, and the Phillies will assume the role for game two.
Does Either Club Have a Stronger Claim To Be the Home Team?
The short answer? Not really. Neither team has played in London before, and neither has any players from the United Kingdom on their roster.
While London is marginally closer to New York than Philadelphia, Chase Utley – MLB’s ambassador to Europe – will undoubtedly ensure his former team feels right at home.

When Does the London Series Start?
After wrapping up their games on Wednesday, both teams will have two off-days on Thursday and Friday to travel across the pond, adjust to the five-hour time difference, and prepare for the series.
The first game of the London Series will start at 6:10 p.m. local time on Saturday, June 8, followed by the second game at 3:10 p.m. local time on Sunday, June 9.
Where Will the Series Take Place?
Like in 2019 and 2023, the 2024 MLB London Series will be held at London Stadium in East London’s Stratford district. Originally constructed for the 2012 Summer Olympics, the stadium now serves as the home ground for Premier League club West Ham United F.C.
With its large capacity and unique oval shape, London Stadium is one of the few venues in the city equipped to host a Major League Baseball game.
Names To Keep an Eye On
Unfortunately, there are no UK-born players on either the Phillies or the Mets. In fact, there are currently no UK-born players in Major League Baseball.
Interestingly, two members of the Great Britain national baseball team, Andre Scrubb and Trayce Thompson, are in the Mets’ system. However, both were born in the United States, and neither will be on New York’s roster for the London Series.
The closest connection either team has to the United Kingdom is Mets first base coach Antoan Richardson, who was born and raised in The Bahamas. Richardson served as the bench coach for Great Britain’s national team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
