Guardians Edge Rays in Game 3 as Dodgers Face Elimination
The Guardians handled business in Game 3, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 to take a two-games-to-one series lead. The game was moved to 1 p.m. Eastern because of weather concerns.
Gavin Williams did his part over five innings, and the Guardians avoided leaving Dave Robertson in longer than necessary. Cleveland held on for the victory after a strong run to close the season and a comeback from an 0-2 deficit against the White Sox in its previous series.
Despite Cleveland’s series lead, Tampa Bay remains capable of coming back. The teams are evenly matched, organize their rosters similarly and take comparable approaches to managing their pitching. Neither team is known for producing many high-scoring games, making PD Halpin’s performance a surprise.
Tampa Bay needs to win one game in Cleveland to send the series back to Saint Petersburg next week. Elsewhere, the Dodgers face elimination, while Week 6 of Thursday Night Football and several interesting college football games are also on the schedule.
