Charles Leclerc Targets Monaco GP Win to End Drought

Charles Leclerc Targets Monaco GP Win to End Drought

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From The Inside Line

Charles Leclerc Seeks Redemption in Monaco

Charles Leclerc is hopeful that the Monaco Grand Prix, his home race, will mark the end of his and Ferrari's victory drought. Leclerc's last win was at the United States Grand Prix in Austin in 2024. Since then, wins have been elusive, with the longest gap in his career occurring between the 2019 Italian Grand Prix and the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix.

The Monaco Grand Prix holds special significance for Leclerc, who navigates the familiar streets he once traveled to school on by bus. The track, rich in Formula One history, demands precision, leaving no room for error. However, Leclerc's previous attempts in Monaco have been fraught with challenges, including a failed start from pole position in 2021 due to a drive shaft issue.

Despite securing pole again in 2022, a delayed pit stop decision by Ferrari allowed Sergio Perez to clinch the win. In 2023, Red Bull and Max Verstappen dominated, with Verstappen beginning a record-breaking win streak in Monaco. However, Leclerc found success in 2024, securing a victory on his sixth attempt and placing ahead of McLaren's Oscar Piastri in a race that tested the drivers' tire management skills.

Looking ahead, Leclerc remains optimistic about his chances, especially after overcoming what he described as his "worst ever weekend" in Canada. As the Formula One season progresses, all eyes will be on Leclerc to see if he can continue his success at one of the sport's most iconic venues.
