With the season series knotted at 1-1, the winner of tonight’s game will be the season series winner.

Coming off two heartbreaking road losses, both at the buzzer, expect the Pistons to come out swinging, especially against another conference rival. I’ll take the odds that Detroit pulls off the upset in Motor City.

Both teams have shown throughout the season that they have the firepower to score with any team in the league. Philly will have Joel Embiid back on the floor. Meanwhile, the Pistons have proven they can stay in any game with star Cade Cunningham in action. All things considered, I’ll take the odds that this game is a high-scoring battle. A final score of 122-117 seems realistic in this duel.

Tyrese Maxey has been playing on another level this season as he’s had to carry the weight of Embiid’s extensive absence over the last few months. The Kentucky product averages 27.9 points per game, shooting 44.4% from field goal range and 34.5% from three. Maxey averages 9.7 three-point attempts per game in games where he averages 3.3 makes per night. In his last eight games, the guard has finished with 4+ threes in five. I expect a big game from Maxey tonight in a duel between two of the top young guards in the league.

Cade Cunningham continues to prove that the Pistons made the right choice, selecting him as the No. 1 overall pick in 2021. The guard has improved in each of his first four years in the league, and this season, he’s averaging 25.6 points per game. Cunningham has finished with 30+ points in four of his last five games, and like Maxey, I expect him to take this guard showdown personally as he looks to lead his team to another home win.
