Josh Hart's Controversial Play: Did He Get Pushed or Not?

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From The Craig Carton Show
Controversial Call in Recent Basketball Game Discussed by Craig Carton
In a recent basketball game, an incident involving players Josh Hart and Luke Cornett sparked controversy. During the game, after scoring a layup, Josh Hart was bumped by Cornett. Initially, it appeared to observers, including myself, that Cornett had shoved Hart aggressively. However, upon reviewing the replay, it was clear that while there was contact, it did not rise to the level of a technical foul. This contact seemed unintended as Cornett appeared to be reaching for the basketball to initiate a quick inbounds play.
Hart, feeling he had been pushed dangerously, reacted strongly by pushing Cornett, which led to a technical foul being called on Hart. Surprisingly, no foul was called on Cornett. The officiating in this series has been a topic of heated debate among fans, especially given several other contentious calls during the game.
Further complicating matters, when Hart was pushed down, several Knicks players, including Jose Alvarado, OGian and Obi Toppin, and Jordan Clarkson, came off the bench onto the court. Their intention seemed to be to deescalate the situation, but this action is technically prohibited. In past instances within the NBA, such as during playoffs games between the Heat and Knicks and a suspension incident involving Amar'e Stoudemire with the Suns, similar actions have led to player suspensions. Despite this, the players involved in this instance were not suspended, which could be seen as an inconsistency in the enforcement of NBA rules.
This incident has not been widely covered, and the potential implications of the Knicks players' actions, including possible suspensions, have largely been overlooked. While the officiating drew criticism from Knicks fans, especially concerning a non-call on a flagrant foul on Jalen Brunson, the lack of action on the bench incident might be viewed as a fortunate oversight for the Knicks in terms of player availability for upcoming games.
