Ice Cube Discusses NBA Pushback Against the BIG3 League

Ice Cube expressed confusion and frustration about why the NBA, under Commissioner Adam Silver, has shown resistance towards his BIG3 basketball league. Cube suggested that the NBA is borrowing aspects of BIG3's business model, notably in light of the introduction of 3-on-3 basketball to the Olympic Games. Despite what he perceives as evident merits of the BIG3 league, Cube highlighted the NBA's non-compete clauses as a significant barrier. These clauses prevent NBA owners from investing in BIG3, although they are permitted to invest in other major sports leagues like the NFL, NHL, and MLB.

Additionally, Cube pointed out that the Department of Justice is examining these non-compete clauses, emphasizing the inconsistency in the rules that restrict NBA owners from also owning BIG3 teams. Despite these challenges, the BIG3 league is expanding into cities with NBA teams such as Los Angeles, Detroit, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, and Boston, a strategy that highlights the demand and potential growth for the league.
