Bruce Pearl has been receiving quite a bit of negative attention lately. Much of it is due to his continued presence on the Auburn payroll, despite the controversy surrounding him and the team's failure to make the tournament. Rightly so, as the omission of Auburn from the tournament was justified. This season marked a significant shift in opinion about Pearl, especially after Auburn, a team with 16 losses, did not make it to the tournament. This was a fair decision, especially when compared to a team like Miami of Ohio, which had an impressive record of 31-1.

Interestingly, this year the selection committee's decisions were met with general approval, a rarity in the sport. There were zero complaints about the teams picked for the tournament, indicating that perhaps the committee's evaluations aligned well with public and expert opinions this time around.
