A few teams were in contention for the last spot on our list. Western Kentucky deserves some heat. UConn's wheels are falling off. West Virginia has been exposed. Still, it's time to put some pressure on Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Since taking over, Belichick and UNC have gone 6-10, with a dismal 2-7 record in ACC play. Sure, they held their own against Notre Dame on Saturday, but this team still can't find a way to move the football. The Tar Heels rank 108th in total offense, propped up by an unflattering Week 2 win over East Tennessee.

The Bill Belichick experiment isn't working. The North Carolina Tar Heels will struggle against Pitt. That sentiment carries into every future game on their schedule.

The USC Trojans accomplished two things in Week 5. First, they improved their record to 5-1 with a win over Washington. More notably, they ascended our chart as the most overrated team in college football.

USC was down at halftime and needed a defensive touchdown to take the lead.

USC struggled to move the ball against Washington at home, and we have no idea how they'll put up yards at Penn State this weekend.

It's been a good run, but this team is about to fall out of the Top 25.
2. SMU Mustangs

The SMU Mustangs continue to get way too much credit for their early-season performances.

To recap, SMU has beaten UC-Davis, Missouri State, Boston College, and FSU. Even against that ragtag group of teams, they've looked unimpressive.

It's impossible to reconcile how this team is still ranked. A winnable schedule only propels this team higher in the standings, but they definitely don't deserve to be there.
3. Florida Gators

The Florida Gators took us all on a bit of a ride. Initially, we were skeptical about their long-term chances. Then, foolishly, we gave them the benefit of the doubt. But after Week 5's thrashing at Mizzou, our initial concerns were validated.

The Gators are nothing without their offense. Missouri stymied them in Week 4, and the Tigers have looked beatable early this season. Facing some of the country's premier defenses in the SEC, we should see this team falter in the coming weeks.

With games at Texas and at Georgia coming up, Florida stands to lose all of the ground it made up early this season.
4. Mississippi State Bulldogs

No one expected the Mississippi State Bulldogs to be ranked at any point this season, so maybe they don't belong on this list. But after Week 4's good old-fashioned beatdown by Alabama, maybe it's time to call them out.

Mississippi State's immaculate four-week run came to a screeching halt. The Bulldogs' defense had no answer for Bama's methodical attack, and their offense couldn't keep pace. In the end, the Crimson Tide exposed the Bulldogs for who they really are.

Mississippi State dropped one spot in the Top 25 rankings. Formerly 16th-ranked and now sitting 17th, the Bulldogs should be getting way more heat than they are.
5. Iowa Hawkeyes

The Iowa Hawkeyes are the Big Ten's Mississippi State Bulldogs. No one expected them to beat Ohio State in Week 5, but the Hawkeyes really floundered and proved they still have a long way to go before they can be taken seriously.

Iowa failed on both sides of the football. They gave up 484 yards on defense, nearly double the 238 they mustered. And with less than 22 minutes of possession time, the Hawkeyes didn't have an effective game plan to compete.

It's time to get real about the Hawkeyes. If they somehow manage to run the table and sneak into the Big Ten Championship Game, they could be the least deserving participant in conference history. We think it's more likely they'll lose two of their next four.
6. Michigan Wolverines

Ah, the Michigan Wolverines; arguably, college football's most overrated team. Thankfully, the voters thought better of including the Wolverines in their rankings. For anyone who thinks this is still a competent team. Let us assure you that's patently false.

Michigan dropped another conference showdown, bested by the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Week 5. In that one-sided affair, the Wolverines put up 180 yards of total offense while holding the ball for just 22:24.

Heading into a bye week to lick their wounds, the Wolverines face back-to-back games against Penn State and then Indiana. That's without considering their future encounters versus Oregon, UCLA, and Ohio State.

Michigan's only goal is bowl eligibility, and that may still overstate their chances.
8. Ole Miss Rebels

It may have been a bye week for the Ole Miss Rebels, but we haven't forgotten they're overrated.

The Rebels got a week off after a laughable Week 4 defeat to Florida. That loss looks even worse following the Gators' implosion versus Mizzou. Still, Ole Miss is clinging to a spot in the Top 10 and is expected to win comfortably at Vandy in Week 6.

Even with an extra week to prepare, we're skeptical of the Rebels' chances in Nashville. We wouldn't be surprised if the Rebels are handed their second loss of the season on Saturday.
7. Louisville Cardinals

People need to stop romanticizing the Louisville Cardinals. This program is a shell of its former self, and middle-of-the-road college football teams keep beating it.

Most recently, the Cardinals were humbled by a one-dimensional NC State squad. The Wolfpack sit in the bottom half of the country defensively, and Louisville was still out-gained and out-possessed by a substantial margin.

Now sitting with a losing record and no defensive integrity, Louisville is headed towards a disappointing season.
9. Auburn Tigers

Another week, another uninspired loss by the Auburn Tigers. This time, Auburn was outmatched by the Tennessee Volunteers, and the Tigers might have only two winnable games left.

Auburn's offense remains one of the worst in the conference. If we ignore the 610 they put up against 1-3 Southern Miss, the Tigers average just 347.8 yards per game. More concerningly, only one of their games has been against a Top 50 defense. Surely, that's enough to convince people that this offense can't be taken seriously.

Auburn closes out the month with games versus Georgia, LSU, and Ole Miss. And the Tigers don't have a chance in any of those.
