SEC Best Bets: Week 3 of the 2024 College Football Season

The college football season continues, with Week 3 action kicking off on Saturday. What SEC bets should you make for the second week of action? The SEC has plenty of contenders looking to make their mark for a national championship in 2024, highlighted by Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss. The journey for these powerhouse programs continues in Week 3.

We’ll highlight our weekly SEC best bets below and keep track of our betting record throughout the season. Good luck!

SEC Play (1 Unit)

N0.24 Boston College Eagles vs No.6 Missouri Tigers

Spread: Eagles+16.5 (-115) | Tigers -16.5 (-105)
Moneyline: Eagles +490 | Tigers -720
Total: OVER 53.5 (-110) | UNDER 53.5 (-110)

Two ranked teams are set to collide in Week 3, with the Missouri Tigers hosting the Boston College Eagles. The Tigers have looked impressive through two games, especially defensively, and have yet to allow a point in either of their wins. The Eagles might not be on par with that, but they’ve still outscored their respective opponents 84-13. That gets you put on notice, no matter the level of competition. Eagles’ QB Thomas Castellanos has been efficient and made big plays when needed, which will be no different in this matchup. Despite both offenses showing explosive elements at times, we’re looking at the defenses in this matchup. The Eagles and Tigers have both been better than expected through two weeks on that side of the football, and the total is a little too rich for us in this ranked clash. The Tigers should win, but we’re gravitating toward the under 53.5.

Recommended Play: UNDER 53.5 (-110)

Bigger SEC Play (2 Units)

Toledo Rockets vs Mississippi State Bulldogs

Spread: Rockets +12.5 (-110) | Bulldogs -12.5 (-110)
Moneyline: Rockets +340 | Bulldogs -450
Total: OVER 59.5 (-110) | UNDER 59.5 (-110)

We’re officially out on the Mississippi State Bulldogs for now. I like what Jeff Lebby will bring to this program one day, but today is not that day. The Bulldogs kept it tight last week against Arizona State, but we weren’t impressed enough to back them in this matchup as a double-digit favorite. Despite not liking the makeup of this Bulldogs team, we’ve quietly grown fond of this version of the Toledo Rockets. The Rockets are 2-0, and although they haven’t beaten a team of consequence, I like what I’ve seen from their playmakers on offense. The Bulldogs are susceptible to some big plays through the air, which makes us bullish that the Rockets can keep this a tight game or backdoor cover late. It wouldn’t even surprise us if the Bulldogs were outright upset here. Since we’re getting double-digits in points, we’re thrilled to back the Rockets in this road clash.

Recommended Play: Rockets +12.5 (-115)

Biggest SEC Play (3 Units)

No.1 Georgia Bulldogs vs Kentucky Wildcats

Spread: Bulldogs -24.5 (-105) | Wildcats +24.5 (-115)
Moneyline: Bulldogs -4000 | Wildcats +1400
Total: OVER 45.5 (-105) | UNDER 45.5 (-115)

Through two weeks, the Georgia Bulldogs have unequivocally looked like a top team in the country. The Bulldogs have the talent to make another run at a national championship, and there’s no reason to think otherwise after two matchups. The Bulldogs are set to visit Kentucky as a sizable favorite in Week 3. After some tighter victories in recent memory, the Bulldogs got back on top in a big way last year with a 51-13 win over Kentucky. The Wildcats defense has some solid parts, which should keep Georgia under that number this time. What we’re going to highlight here is the Wildcats offense, which has looked abysmal through two weeks. The Bulldogs are a significant challenge on any given day, even more so when your offense is struggling this much. It wouldn’t shock me if the Wildcats were shut out on Saturday, and even if they find a way to score a few points, the Bulldogs should dominate all over the field and cover the number.

Recommended Plays: Bulldogs -24.5
