Florida Gators Backed for a Turnaround Against Texas

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Game Time Decisions

Gators Backed to Rebound as Doubts Grow Around Top Quarterbacks

Florida could have a major opportunity to bounce back against Texas. The belief is that Texas is not as good as advertised and that this matchup could give Summerall and the Gators the chance to respond in a big way.

There are also serious doubts about Arch Manning. Much of his previous success was described as stat padding against subpar teams, aside from one strong performance against a ranked opponent. After entering the season with Manning and Oregon’s Dante Moore viewed as leading quarterback prospects, neither currently looks like a franchise-changing player.

The Gators were crushed in their previous game, and their defense remains a major concern. However, their poor offensive performance was viewed as an anomaly based on how the unit had played over the preceding weeks.

South Carolina quarterback Lenora Sellers remains an intriguing prospect despite his struggles. He could still receive an opportunity in the NFL, potentially as a second- or third-round selection. His tools invite comparisons to Brian Leftwich, another quarterback who appeared to have everything needed but never fully put it together.

Other quarterbacks discussed included Chambliss, Darian Menza and CJ Carr. Chambliss and Menza were identified as two of the best quarterbacks in the group, while Carr was expected to face difficult games against Miami and BYU.

Attention ultimately returned to Florida, with the Gators getting support after the line had previously been 11. The view was that Florida effectively lost the Missouri game twice. After building confidence following the Ole Miss beatdown, the Gators were embarrassed at home by Missouri, and that disappointment carried into the South Carolina game.

Those consecutive setbacks could now serve as a wake-up call. Getting away from the Swamp and playing on the road may also help Florida adopt an us-against-everybody mentality.

One speaker recalled attending the University of Florida from 1991 through 1995 and said the Gators did not lose a single home game during those four years.
