LSU vs. Auburn Preview: Can LSU Finally Find a Win?

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Outspoken With Dan Sileo

LSU Faces Must-Win Test Against Surging Auburn

Auburn enters its matchup against LSU after an enormous win over Georgia. LSU, meanwhile, has gone from looking like a possible national championship contender to fighting to remain in the SEC championship conversation.

LSU has been difficult to figure out. The Tigers appear talented enough to rank among the top teams, but their results tell a complicated story. Their losses have not been terrible: They fell by one point in overtime at Kentucky and lost by one score at Ole Miss after having the football with an opportunity to tie the game.

However, LSU’s wins have not been especially impressive. The Clemson result has not aged well, A&M has struggled, and LSU beat Mississippi State without Kamario. While the losses are understandable, the wins have done little to define the Tigers.

That uncertainty continues against Auburn. A loss could be explained by Auburn finding its form after beating Georgia and earning a top-25 ranking, but LSU cannot afford another defeat. A win could simply lead to questions about whether Auburn is actually that good.

The pressure will only intensify after this matchup, with Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee next on LSU’s schedule. Kiffin and LSU are firmly in win-now mode, even though the team seems to win only when it dominates by 14 to 24 points. LSU is the lean in this tricky matchup, but predicting its games has been difficult.
