Oklahoma Stuns Texas as Arch Manning Struggles in Red River

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Pushing The Odds with Matt Perrault

Texas Falls to Oklahoma as Playoff Questions Grow

Texas failed to cover in another major football game, making it three successful ATS fades against the Longhorns. After failing to cover against Oklahoma and Ohio State, Texas lost Saturday’s Red River matchup to Oklahoma.

Arch Manning threw a fourth-quarter pick-six and was intercepted again to end the game. Oklahoma also recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown, while its defense delivered an impressive performance against Manning.

The victory saved Oklahoma’s season and created more uncertainty around Texas’ path to the College Football Playoff. The earlier win over Ohio State could still help Texas reach the postseason with two losses, but a third loss would likely end those hopes. With Texas’ remaining schedule, one or even two more losses appear possible.

Oklahoma may need to run the table to make the playoff. Its previous performance against Georgia could hurt the team’s image with the committee, but the win over Texas could become a deciding factor if Oklahoma keeps winning. The defense is capable, while the offense remains the primary concern. John Mattier did not play a great game, but he played well enough to beat Texas.

Oregon was also left out of the projected top 12 before losing over the weekend and falling out of the top 25. The view remains that Oregon would not have made the playoff, regardless of Dante Moore’s injury. Dylan Rayola struggled over the weekend and is viewed as a decent quarterback, but not a season-saving answer.

Questions also remain about whether Arch Manning matches the attention surrounding him. His name has fueled talk of him becoming the presumptive number-one pick and a surefire NFL prospect, but concerns remain about late throws and misread coverages. The plan is to continue betting against the market and fading Manning when the opportunity arises.
