Dave Backs Tennessee, Two Game Totals and New Mexico in Week 8
Dave likes Tennessee and bought the line up to three points from 2.5. He called the line disrespectful and believes Tennessee is the better team, despite the difficult road spot against South Carolina following a big game against Alabama.
He is not buying South Carolina, even after watching the team beat Florida in Gainesville. He also believes people are underestimating Tennessee’s defense, which he views as a top-10 unit and potentially a top-five defense.
Dave also likes the under at 42.5 in Michigan versus Indiana. Both teams have strong defenses and have struggled offensively this season. Michigan ranks 120th or worse in every statistical category mentioned, and although the team switched quarterbacks from Underwood to Carr, Dave remains unconvinced. Carr looked great against Penn State, but Indiana represents a step up in competition.
For the game in Provo between Utah and Houston, Dave is taking the over at 56.5. He sees two strong offenses and a bad Houston defense creating the conditions for a higher-scoring game.
His final selection comes from outside the ranked matchups and major conferences. Dave likes New Mexico minus 4.5 at home against North Dakota State in a significant game for a Group of Six bid. The Lobos are 5-1 against the spread this season, while head coach Jason Eck has used social media to encourage fans to sell out University Stadium.
Dave spent three years attending games in Albuquerque and said the stadium can be a feisty place to play. New Mexico is 4-1 this season as a favorite of at least 4.5 points, showing an ability to handle expectations.
The Lobos also lead the nation in defensive havoc, which includes disruptive plays, turnovers and sacks. Dave believes they can create problems for a North Dakota State offense that has struggled at times, including scoring only seven points against UNLV.
New Mexico has held five of its six opponents to 10 points or fewer. The Lobos also held Oklahoma to fewer than 300 yards in a 14-10 loss. Dave’s pick is New Mexico minus 4.5 in Albuquerque.
