Baker Mayfield Returns as Buccaneers and Panthers Prepare for an Unpredictable Division Matchup

Matchups between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers have a way of getting unpredictable. Carolina showed last week that it intends to remain competitive until the end. Even with Philadelphia missing players, the Panthers went on the road and earned an impressive win.

Carolina now returns home to face Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers will be without several wide receivers, but they have been running the ball much better. The Panthers’ running game and overall offense have also improved, making this another matchup in which taking the points could be tempting.

Carolina is playing good football, and its defense may be better than many people realize. With no Emeka Buka in this game, Ted Hurst could be worth watching, including as a possible touchdown scorer. Godwin could also have a larger role.

Baker Mayfield’s healthy return should provide a boost for a team that remained competitive during his absence. The Buccaneers won on the road against the Cowboys and took the Steelers to overtime last week. The coaching staff deserves credit for keeping the team prepared and competitive without Mayfield.

With Mayfield back, Tampa Bay has an opportunity to make a statement in a significant division game. Still, the matchup is difficult to predict and may be best watched from the sidelines.
