Jaden’s Durability Remains a Question as He Searches for Comfort in the Offense
Jaden is truly gifted. He throws the ball well and moves around well, but after missing several games at the end of last year and being out this year, he has not found a comfort level in the offense or the pocket. That is understandable rather than a criticism. Without consistent playing time, it is difficult for a quarterback to find a groove.
Durability remains something that must be evaluated over time. It was encouraging that Jaden made it through this game while wearing a brace on his elbow. Through five games, three different players have taken snaps, and it is unclear when Marcus will return. Ethan did an admirable job despite having no playing time, while Jaden is now trying to work his way back into form.
The poor weather also made throwing the ball difficult, but Jaden handled those conditions well. Still, availability is essential for building a game plan and roster around a quarterback.
The same durability question can be asked about Michael Pennox. He left the Atlanta game while his team was in control. Tua then stepped onto the field, Baltimore eventually made an interception, and the game ended.
Quarterback is a difficult position, which is why bigger players such as Trevor Lawrence and Josh Allen stand out. They can absorb hits, but quarterbacks must also learn to protect themselves. Jaden has improved over the last couple of years at sliding, getting out of bounds, and doing what is necessary to line up again.
His rib and elbow injuries have been unusual accidents. If he can remain on the field, he should continue improving and become increasingly comfortable in the pocket.
