Week 7 Delivers Thrillers, Tough Losses and Defensive Statements
As Week 7 of the National Football League begins, teams are starting to separate themselves. One of the most impressive stories is the job John Harbaugh is doing with the New York Giants, who are now 4-2-1. The Giants ran the football effectively, while Scatterbo returned from being benched and played with determination.
JJ McCarthy may not have delivered a flashy performance, but he is a 1-0 quarterback with the Giants. For him, the most important result is the victory. He said he is happy when the running backs get their touches and touchdowns because winning matters more than who scores.
Elsewhere, the defending champions struggled against the Kansas City Chiefs, while the Seahawk defense looked like its unit from a year ago. Mahomes said the game showed that any team can get beaten badly if it is not ready to play. Regardless of a team’s record, every week presents a new challenge. The focus now is on responding, practicing well and preparing for the next big game.
The previously undefeated San Francisco Forty-Niners also suffered a tough loss. Bejon Robinson made an impact, while Michael Pennox and the Falcons played well and took the game to the Forty-Niners.
Kyle Shanahan praised his players’ effort, including the wide receivers and Jordan Watkins, and felt the team ran the ball well. However, turnovers proved costly. The Forty-Niners lost two fumbles involving Kittel and KB, while the opposing defense also made two strong interceptions. Shanahan said the team must protect the football better.
The undefeated Vikings continued finding ways to win despite their offensive struggles. Kyler Murray credited the players on the other side of the football, describing the Vikings defense as a special group with strong continuity. He said their Sunday performances do not surprise him because he understands how hard they work and what they expect from themselves.
