International Fans, Surprise Results and NFL Teams Finding Their Form
The NFL’s international game in Paris went ahead despite calls to cancel it because of riots in France. The stadium was full, and international fans appeared to have a growing understanding of the game’s nuances. They still cheered especially loudly for field goals and extra points, since the kicking game is easy to recognize.
San Francisco suffered its first loss against Atlanta after being outplayed. Brock Purdy struggled and did not look as sharp as he had during the first five weeks. Still, one loss is part of a season, and the Niners now have an opportunity to learn and adapt while continuing to play well overall.
Tampa Bay could make a run after Baker Mayfield’s return. The New York Giants also have an interesting quarterback situation after benching Jameis Winston following one bad game and turning to JZ McCarthy, whom they acquired in a trade from Minnesota. Cam Scattaboo received no carries in one game after making mistakes, but responded by rushing for more than 100 yards in the next game.
That situation highlighted the NFL’s cutthroat mentality. No matter a player’s status or experience, a lack of production can put a roster spot at risk.
Cincinnati is having a great season, while Burrows has regularly delivered more than 30 fantasy points. That production helped produce a 7-0 fantasy football record and first place in the league. Fantasy sports remain a big part of the conversation at LatiNation, including both football and basketball.
Minnesota may be the league’s only undefeated team, led by a quarterback who continues to defy the odds despite standing around 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10.
Miami finally earned its first win of the season, but the Dolphins could still be looking for a quarterback. Malik Willis was described as a good backup rather than a long-term starter.
Cleveland’s season has also taken an unexpected turn. The team entered the year anticipating another quarterback search and planning to bring back Deshaun Watson despite low expectations. Watson was booed by his own fans during the preseason, while Shaddo Sanders waited for an opportunity as the backup. Now Watson is playing well, the Browns are 5-2, and Sanders could potentially be traded.
Tennessee quarterback Cam Ward remains a player to watch. The former Miami Hurricane and number-one pick has plenty of potential, even as Tennessee considers whether to pursue another quarterback.
Sunday also featured Denver against Arizona, Green Bay losing to the Detroit Lions, and a Southern California matchup between the Rams and Raiders. It was one of several Clasicos during the weekend, alongside Barcelona against Real Madrid and LAFC against the Galaxy.
The Rams appear ready to build a comeback after several close losses, aside from their first game against the 49ers. Matthew Stafford is playing extremely well, and the team expects injured players to return later in the year, including Devante Adams and Miles Garrett. With Puca also in the lineup, the Rams could put together a run and make the playoffs.
On the Raiders’ side, Fernando Mendoza may get his opportunity next season. The expectation is that he will use this season to learn the schemes and offensive approach before receiving playing time.
Seattle returned to its winning ways against Kansas City. It was surprising to see Mahomes unable to make a major impact, with Kansas City scoring only three points.
