Investigation Raises Questions About Jalen Hurts’ Medical Care Overseas
Several sidebar stories surround the Eagles and Cowboys Monday Night Football game, most notably a dispute between the NFL and NFLPA over the medical care Jalen Hurts received overseas when the Eagles played the Jaguars.
The NFL initially cleared its handling of the situation within 24 hours, but the NFLPA pushed back. A full investigation is now underway, with questions remaining about the procedures followed by the Eagles. There are also reports that the commissioner is unhappy with aspects of how the situation was handled.
Jacob Kammer of USA Today said the investigation is appropriate because people want answers about Hurts’ blood-clotting issue, his decision to play through it and his subsequent placement on injured reserve. Although the NFL quickly said there would not be an investigation, the NFLPA wanted more information about what happened.
The hope is that every procedure was followed correctly and that this was a freak incident, but the findings of the investigation will determine what happened. Most importantly, Hurts was diagnosed and is receiving care for the blood clots in his lungs. The situation remains frightening, and more information is still needed about the medical procedures followed in London.
