Packers Picked to Beat Lions in Crucial Week 7 Clash

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Game Time Decisions

Green Bay Picked to Beat Detroit in a Pivotal Week 7 Matchup

Green Bay versus Detroit could help clarify the divisional picture in Week 7. The game will show whether Detroit used its bye to make improvements, particularly with the defense getting healthier.

The Packers are the pick this week. Detroit is only a slight favorite at home, while Green Bay appears to be heading in the right direction despite not playing its best football. The Lions look like a team that could hover slightly above .500 and go back and forth throughout the season.

Green Bay’s receiving options are another reason for optimism. The expected return of Josh Jacobs should also improve a rushing attack that has struggled badly. Even if Jacobs receives only 10 carries for 40 yards, that four-yard average would provide an upgrade and help the Packers convert third-and-short opportunities.

Marshaw Lloyd was forced into action because of what happened with Jacobs, even though he was not expected to have a significant role this season. The Packers tried to fill the position with players such as Pierre Strong or Brooks rather than making a trade, but it did not work.

If Green Bay wins, the Packers could become the primary divisional concern for Chicago. Defensive reinforcements are returning, and Parsons and the defense may be starting to figure things out. The division could ultimately come down to Chicago and the winner of Sunday’s game.

Detroit still has a chance in what the line suggests will be a close matchup. Minnesota also cannot be discounted. With five wins already, the Vikings may only need to play .500 football for the rest of the season to reach 11 victories and potentially win the division.

Even if Minnesota earns a home playoff game and a bye, there may still be questions about trusting the team to reach the Super Bowl. The Vikings have one of the NFL’s best defenses, which can win a playoff game, but that alone may not put them ahead of the other contenders discussed.

Minnesota appears to be ahead of Detroit, but not Green Bay or Chicago. That makes Week 7 a fascinating point in the season, with the results likely to reveal much more about the divisional race.
