Panthers vs. Eagles: Injuries and Travel Shape the Odds

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Outspoken With Dan Sileo

Injuries and Travel Put Eagles-Panthers Matchup in Focus

The Eagles’ Sunday game against the Panthers stands out because of Philadelphia’s extensive injury report and Carolina’s offense, which ranks third in the NFL in total yards. Despite concerns about the Panthers’ defense and offensive line, Carolina is an appealing pick as a 1.5-point road underdog in Philadelphia.

There is still a lean toward the Eagles based on prior expectations, but the travel situation creates another concern. Philadelphia is returning from London, while Carolina had its bye week and has presumably been in Philadelphia for 10 days. It is an unusually difficult scheduling spot for the Eagles.

Philadelphia is also dealing with injuries throughout the roster. Saquon Barkley might not play, DeVonta Smith could miss another game, and Jalen Hurts is entering the matchup with a calf injury. With A.J. Brown gone and limited depth at the skill positions, Hurts may have to carry the offense and win games for the Eagles.

The situation feels increasingly desperate, even though Philadelphia’s recent results have not been terrible. The Eagles had opportunities to beat Super Bowl-quality teams over the past two weeks, but the combination of injuries, travel and Carolina’s rest advantage makes this a game to watch closely.
