Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium: 2026 World Cup Host Location

Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium: 2026 World Cup Host Location

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From The Contenders

Exploring Kansas City's Iconic Arrowhead Stadium

Kansas City, located nearly at the heart of the United States, is the largest city in Missouri and ranks as the sixth largest in the Midwest. The city is home to Arrowhead Stadium, which boasts a seating capacity of 76,000. Known as GEHA Field for commercial purposes and as Kansas City Stadium during the World Cup, this venue has been an integral part of the city since its opening in 1972. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations to enhance its facilities.

The Kansas City Chiefs, an NFL franchise and the primary tenants of Arrowhead Stadium, have clinched four Super Bowl titles, three of which have come since 2019. The stadium has garnered worldwide attention, breaking the Guinness World Record for the loudest stadium twice, first in 2013 and again in 2014, both times during games featuring the Chiefs.

Although primarily a venue for American football, Arrowhead has hosted significant soccer events as well. It was once the home ground for the Kansas City Wiz, a Major League Soccer team now known as Sporting Kansas City. The stadium witnessed one of its largest soccer attendances in 2024 when Lionel Messi played with Miami against Sporting Kansas City, drawing 72,610 fans, the fourth highest in MLS history.

The US men's national soccer team has also competed at this venue, with their most recent match in 2024 resulting in a 1-0 loss against Uruguay. As a World Cup venue, Arrowhead Stadium is set to host six matches, including four group stage matches, one round of 32 game, and a quarterfinal.
