Australian Women's Basketball Team Gears Up for FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers

Australia has revealed a strong squad for the upcoming FIFA Women's World Cup 2026 qualifying tournament in Istanbul, featuring seven of the players who earned a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The team includes standouts like Alana Smith and Ezzie Magbagor, who both played pivotal roles in Paris with Smith averaging 12 points and 8 rebounds, and Magbagor with similar impressive stats. Smith also had a notable season in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx, earning a co-title as Defensive Player of the Year, while Magbagor received her third all-defensive second team selection with the Seattle Storm.

The roster also includes Jade Melbourne, Isabelle Borlas, Kayla George, Sammy Whitcomb, and Steph Talbot, all of whom represented Australia in Paris. As champions of the FIFA Women's Asia Cup, Australia has already secured its spot in the World Cup. Their qualifying campaign begins on March 11 against Argentina, followed by matches against Japan, Hungary, host nation Turkey, and Canada.
