5. Pressure Penix
The Oregon Ducks have come a long way on defense this season. They are now surrendering only 15.9 points per game and have clamped down in the past month, holding four of their five opponents under 20 points. The Ducks must pressure Michael Penix and make him uncomfortable all contest to get the win. They had only one sack in the first matchup and must be more disruptive this time.
1. It's Bo Time
Bo Nix is playing as well, or better, than any quarterback in the country. In the last meeting against Washington, Nix was 33-44 for 337 yards with two touchdowns. Nix has played even better since as the Oregon offense has gone up another notch. Nix will need to be even better this time around and the Oregon offensive line must continue to do a great job providing him with a clean pocket.
2. Stay Balanced
One of the best ways to prevent Michael Penix Jr. and the Washington offense from taking over the game is to prevent them from being on the field. Oregon's offense has shown the ability to chew up clock, most recently on a pair of long drives against Oregon State last weekend. Keeping Bucky Irving and Jordan James involved will help keep Oregon's offense balanced. The Ducks should be able to rush for north of five yards per carry against this defense, replicating the 5.1 yards per carry they had against the Huskies in the last meeting.
3. Win on Fourth Down
Oregon lost the game at Washington by going zero for three on fourth down. Dan Lanning is going to remain aggressive, that's part of what makes the Oregon Ducks who they are. Going for it on fourth down only works well when you convert and the Ducks must do better than 0-3 this time.
4. Win the Battle of Star WRs
Rome Odunze and Troy Franklin are two of the best wide receivers in the country. Odunze outgunned Franklin in the first game between Oregon and Washington with a pair of touchdowns and 128 yards. Both players had eight catches. Franklin will be looked at to do more to bring the PAC-12 Championship back to Eugene.
