Hot Dog Eating Contest Set for July 4 on ESPN Networks

The highly anticipated 2024 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is set to take place on July 4th at the iconic Coney Island corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues. This year’s event, which marks the 21st consecutive year ESPN has televised the competition, promises to deliver another thrilling display of competitive eating.

Broadcast Schedule and Hosts

ESPN Networks will have exclusive live coverage of the event, beginning at 10:45 a.m. ET. The women’s competition will air live on ESPN3 at 10:45 a.m. ET, while the men’s contest will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 12 p.m. ET, with additional replays at 5 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. ET.

Hosting duties will be handled by Jeremy Schaap of E60 and Outside the Lines, alongside Major League Eating President Rich Shea. On-site reporting will be provided by Tiffany Greene, known for her work in college sports play-by-play commentary.

Competitors to Watch

Among the competitors, top-ranked female eater Miki Sudo will be defending her Mustard Belt in the 10-minute, all-you-can-eat contest. On the men’s side, a new champion will emerge as Joey Chestnut, the reigning titleholder since 2016, will not be competing this year.

Geoffrey Esper, currently the No. 2 ranked eater in the world, is expected to be a strong contender. Other notable eaters include Mayoi “Ebimayo” Ebihara, Nick Wehry, Michelle Lesco, James Webb, and Patrick Bertoletti. The international roster features participants from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Nigeria, and South Korea.

Special Features and Records

For fans eager to follow every bite, isolation cameras will be set up to focus on Sudo and Esper. These will be available on ESPN3, with Sudo’s camera streaming at 11 a.m. ET and Esper’s at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Joey Chestnut holds the men’s world record with 76 hot dogs and buns, set in 2021, while Miki Sudo’s record on the women’s side stands at 48.5 hot dogs and buns, achieved in 2020.

As part of its tradition, Nathan’s Famous will donate 100,000 hot dogs to the Food Bank for New York City ahead of the event, highlighting its commitment to community support.
