Different Practice Styles Can Produce Results
Jackson is a workhorse who hits more balls and spends more time putting than almost anyone. His success is no surprise because, behind closed doors, he works harder than anybody else. That demanding routine works for him and keeps him motivated, even if he hits 200 balls and putts for two and a half hours.
Others take a different approach. Rather than practicing until his hands bleed, the speaker prioritizes taking care of his body and making sure he is physically ready. Drawing on the fast-paced nature of the different sports he played growing up, he prefers three to three and a half hours of focused, goal-oriented work.
Each session centers on specific objectives, such as completing a drill or making a certain number of putts. Once those goals are reached, the work is done. He found that routine during the spring of his freshman year, began seeing results more quickly, and was able to transfer his practice to the golf course more effectively.
The team then played two consecutive events that served as qualifying, including its own event, before taking about nine players to the next event.
